HOOD RIVER COUNTY, OR (KPTV) -

A 75-year-old hiker who was missing for three days near Laurance Lake was found safe and in good condition Sunday.

The Hood River County Sheriff's Office reported David Bullock was taken to the hospital for an evaluation after being found at 1:30 p.m.

He had last been seen at noon Thursday.

His wife called for help after she was separated from her husband while they hiked a trail from Laurance Lake in the Mount Hood National Forest on Thursday. Bullock had left all of his gear with his wife as he went to go look at a rock formation.

Bullock told investigators that when he came back down from the rock formation he became lost. He went back to the rocks, and then tried a different direction, but could not find the right path back.

Bullock told deputies he was able to see a search helicopter flying above on Friday, but he couldn't get to a location where the helicopter could see him.

He said he survived on stream water and built a shelter to keep himself warm at night.

On Sunday, deputies said Bullock was able to find his way back to the west end of the lake and flagged down a fisherman for help.

Deputies said he was with his three dogs when he got lost Thursday. One of the dogs remained missing on Sunday.

Bullock was described as being in good spirits as he was reunited with his family at the hospital Sunday.
