LONGVIEW, WA (KPTV) -

A Longview man who pleaded guilty to murdering his 29-year-old friend was sentenced to nearly 28 years in prison.

Lucas Rasmussen pleaded guilty to charges of first-degree murder and second-degree burglary on Aug. 17. He was arrested in March.

A person returning home on the 800 block of Seventh Avenue on March 1 called 911 to report Rasmussen was inside, along with a woman's body.

According to court documents, Rasmussen admitted to police he killed 29-year-old Alisha McLeod.

Friends said McLeod had just completed a program with the Cowlitz County drug court and was attempting to help Rasmussen with his own drug addiction.

A probable cause affidavit said Rasmussen attempted to force his way into the home and tried to kick in the back door before McLeod let him in. According to court documents, Rasmussen chased her into the bedroom and beat her to death with a hammer.

When asked why he did it, detectives said his response was, "She was rude and that she needed to be taught a lesson," court documents state.

As part of his plea deal, the charge of sexually violating human remains was dismissed.

Rasmussen was sentenced Thursday to 27 years and nine months in prison.
