Wild cat spotted in Cedar Mill neighborhood

PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

People living in the Cedar Mill area are on high alert Monday, after a wild cat was spotted in the neighborhood over the weekend.

Neighbors said they found the wild cat high up in the trees, in broad daylight, behind a home off Northwest Priscilla Court on Saturday.

There has long been rumors of a wild cat roaming the green space, according to neighbors. Now finally, someone captured proof one exists by snapping a photo of the cat perched perfectly on a branch.

The sighting was around the corner from Cedar Mill School, where kids often play in the summer.

“We’re just worried about our dogs, if they get out there’s the potential for them to get hurt,” said neighbor Tasha Silvius. “There’s always potential with the coyotes, but a bobcat is a little more threatening.”

Neighbors said just as quickly as the wild cat appeared, it vanished into a wooded area. They’re now wondering if and when it will re-emerge.

“I’d like to see it, I don’t know if I want a close encounter with it, but yeah, I will be on the lookout,” said neighbor Christina Schade.

Neighbors told FOX 12 they called deputies about the situation and said they were told unless the cat is causing problems there’s nothing deputies can really do about it.

The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife informed Fox 12 that they are now looking into if the large cat is truly a bobcat.
