Fire damages classrooms at Harrison Park School in SE Portland

Posted: Updated:

A fire early Tuesday morning damaged two fourth grade classrooms at Harrison Park School in Southeast Portland.

Firefighters said an "unknown electrical failure" sparked the fire around 2 a.m. Tuesday. Firefighters estimated the total amount of damage to be around $30,000.

There were no reports of injuries.

Fire doors in the school prevented the fire from creating more damage.

Officials said it may take a few weeks to repair the damage in the classroom where the fire began, and only a few days to repair the second classroom affected by the fire.

Harrison Park School was built in 1950, and the fire was in the newer section of the building that was built in the 1970s.

Teachers and the principal plan to move students around to accommodate for the damaged classrooms as classes begin Thursday.
