Owner grateful for help getting dog to see the ocean before it loses fight with cancer

PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

A dog got the chance to see the Oregon coast for the first, and sadly the last, time last month.

It wasn't just the dog's first time to the Oregon coast, though. He also played a role in his owners wedding.

Dood is a 5-year-old golden retriever. Earlier this summer, Dood's owner Cassidy Williams found out that her beloved dog was diagnosed with terminal bone cancer.

That's when Williams decided that Dood had to be a part of her special day, so she and her fiancé decided to make him ring bearer.

Photos of Dood with Williams on her wedding day, wearing a bow tie around his collar, brought smiles to her face, and lots of gratitude when she described how many people it took to make this happen, including her father.

“My dad cancelled a flight and ended up driving 25-plus hours there and back with Dood,” Williams explained. “The vacation rental place didn't allow dogs but they made and exception. There was just a lot of people involved."

Williams is planning on going back to Utah this weekend to see Dood to say good-bye.

His tumor has grown, and they are not sure how much longer he has.
