Big Gulp under brake pedal blamed for crash into Beaverton paint store

BEAVERTON, OR (KPTV) -

A crash sent a driver's Big Gulp flying, with the oversized cup ending up under the brake pedal of a van that then slammed into a paint store, according to Beaverton police.

Emergency crews responded to the Progress Shopping Center at around 1 p.m. Thursday to find a van had crashed into the front of Rodda Paint Co. near Southwest Hall Boulevard and Scholls Ferry Road.

Police learned there was a collision between the van and a car in the street that spun the van around in the direction of the shopping center.

Investigators said the driver of the van had a Big Gulp cup from 7-Eleven that became lodged under the brake pedal after the initial crash, preventing the driver from stopping in the street.

The van then continued into the parking lot and hit the paint store.

Police said nobody was hurt, but the driver of the van was taken to the hospital as a precaution.

Officers said there was no indication alcohol was a factor in the crash, but there was no immediate word about possible citations.
