PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

Portland Police arrested a man during a traffic stop after they found a handgun under the driver seat.

Gang Enforcement Team Officers stopped a car at SE 162nd and Division around 11:55 p.m on Wednesday after seeing a driver using a cell phone.

When officers pulled over the driver, Tyeriece Deshaun Overton, 23, they learned that he did not have a driver's license or proof of insurance on the car.

Police said Overton got out of the car and officers began an inventory of the cars contents so the car could be towed.

During the inventory, officers found a handgun under the driver's seat.

Overton was arrested and taken to Multnomah County Jail on a charge of unlawful possession of a firearm.
