HILLSBORO, OR (KPTV) -

A Hillsboro family said that a man stole more than just a modified bike from them. He also stole the family's sense of security.

Cheri Farrimond said surveillance video shows that the man stole their new orange mountain bike, which has a child's seat bolted on it.

A closer look at the footage shows a man slowly walking onto the Farrimonds’ property in their private yard, talking on the phone.

Seconds later he rode away on the new bike.

The theft happened at about 10:00 p.m. Thursday on Main Street in Hillsboro.

Farrimond said her family is devastated, since the bike and child seat allowed whole family to ride together.

She called police and they're investigating, but she said that since the crime her kids don't feel safe playing outside without a parent.

“My children have yet to come out here in the front today and ride their bikes, for the simple fact that we saw someone, a complete stranger, just walking up here and just getting what they want.  What if it was a child?" Farrimond said.

The bike is a bright orange men’s Mongoose mountain bike with a child's seat attached to the back.

Hillsboro police said they have not identified the man yet, but ask anyone with information about the crime to call police at 503-629-0111.
