Police investigating small explosion at Woodburn home

Posted: Updated:

Woodburn police officers responded to a report of an explosion and fire around 12:08 a.m. on Friday.

When officers arrived in the 700 block of S. Cascade Drive, they learned a man was working in his garage when someone threw an object in his garage that exploded and cause a small fire.

The fire was extinguished by the homeowner before police arrived.

Police said a taped box was found in the driveway that the homeowner didn't recognize. Officers could not determine what type of device it was and Oregon State Bomb Squad was called to the scene.

Bomb technicians said the box was empty and that the explosive device thrown into the garage was a mortar-style firework.

No injuries were reported.

Police are still investigating this incident.
