Powerful storm leaves hundreds still without power Sunday

WEST LINN, OR (KPTV) -

The powerful rare August storm made a big entrance overnight Friday, leaving thousands without power Saturday, and hundreds still without power Sunday.

Portland General Electric said they had crews working overnight Saturday to help restore power to those affected by the storm.

Steven White lives in West Linn. He said he didn't have electricity up until Sunday afternoon.

"A transformer blew at end of street, we heard it, people living across the street saw it," White said.

After packing away all his summer camping gear, White said he brought it all back out due to the storm and loss of electricity.

He said he also took out his car battery to wire his cell phone charger.

Neighbors were also looking for power sources over the weekend. Monte Bradley said he rented a generator for a day, while Lew McCutcheon said he asked a friend with an RV if he could hook its generator up to their home's main power source.

By 6 p.m. Sunday, more than 1,800 people remained without power in the metro area, according to PGE's website.
