Utility crews working to restore power after weekend storm

PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

Utility crews have been working around the clock to restore power to those who have been in the dark since Saturday's record-breaking wind storm.

The Portland area saw wind gusts as high as 43 miles per hour Saturday, the strongest winds ever recorded in August.

Those winds brought down trees and power lines across the Northwest, knocking out power to thousands.

At the storm's peak, approximately 27,000 customers of Portland General Electric lost power, the utility said.

As of 5:30 a.m. Monday, nearly 350 customers were still without power in Clackamas and Multnomah counties, according to PGE's website.

The utility expected to restore power to the remainder of those customers Monday.

Forecasters expect the weather to be much calmer Monday, with some scattered showers and some wind gusts up to 20 MPH.
