A Forest Grove teacher was arraigned in court Monday on charges of possession of methamphetamine and patronizing a prostitute.

According to court documents, 50-year-old Mike Maraia was arrested at around 3 a.m. Friday at Southeast 139th and Division in Portland.

The Multnomah County Jail website shows he was released that same day on his own recognizance.

A Forest Grove School District spokeswoman said Maraia has been a math teacher at Neil Armstrong Middle School since 1998.

School starts for the middle school on Tuesday.

Administrators could not immediately comment on Maraia's status with the district following his arrest.
