Police: 3 arrests, 2 stolen guns seized after reports of fight at gang party

PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

Police responding to reports of fighting at a gang-related party in north Portland arrested three people and seized two guns.

The Gang Enforcement Team responded to the 4000 block of North Commercial Avenue at 6:53 p.m. Wednesday.

Officers arriving in the area stopped a Chevy Impala for a traffic violation. Police said the driver and two passengers were all known gang associates and there was no proof of insurance in the vehicle.

One passenger, 24-year-old Jeffrey Cooper, was arrested on a parole violation detainer. As the second passenger, 23-year-old Malachi Mandley, was exiting the car, officers spotted a handgun.

During a search of the car, officers said they located a second handgun. Investigators said both guns were stolen in separate burglaries.

The driver, identified as 28-year-old Marchelow Vaida, was arrested on charges of felon in possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of a firearm and possession of a loaded firearm, as well as a parole violation.

Cooper was booked in the Multnomah County Jail on the same charges.

Mandley is also facing charges of gun charges.
