PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

Portland Police Bureau Traffic Division and East Precinct officers responded to reports of a crash between a van and a motorcycle at the intersection of 44th Avenue and East Burnside Street just after 6:15 p.m. Friday.

The motorcyclist was initially rushed to a Portland hospital in critical condition, but officers tell Fox 12 the local woman in her 30's has been upgraded to "serious but stable" condition.

Traffic investigators say the motorcyclist was heading east on Burnside and the driver of a red van was also on Burnside but heading west.

The driver of the van, also a woman, turned south onto NE 44th, but didn't see the motorcyclist and hit her.

Police say the driver of the van remained on scene, cooperated with police and consented to a blood draw.  Police say there were no signs of impairment and speed was not a factor.  The traffic investigation unit seized the van for further analysis.

The roadway was shut down for a block or two in each direction while police investigated.  It re-opened to traffic at 9:00 p.m. Friday.

The names of those involved have not yet been released.
