Man arrested in Gresham shooting; Reportedly began over rude comments

Posted: Updated:

A Gresham man was arrested Friday night after recklessly shooting multiple rounds at a group of males on East Burnside.

A bullet struck at least one home in the 600 block of SE 190th Ave.

Nobody was hurt in the shooting.

Gresham Police reported that officers responded to multiple 911 calls around 10:45 p.m. Friday evening from nearby residents who said they heard a group of people arguing, then heard four to six gunshots.

Kelly Brister IV, 18, was located in the area by officers, and found him in possession of a pistol that was stolen in 2006.

The East Metro Gang Enforcement Team conducted an investigation, and learned that the initial argument is thought to have stemmed from a group of intoxicated men making rude comments to Brister’s younger sister when she was walking down the street.

Police say the younger sister went home and told Brister, who later confronted the men and fired the shots.

Brister is booked on charges of Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful use of a Weapon, Reckless Endangering, Disorderly Conduct in the Second Degree, and Theft I.
