PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

A man was found dead in a burning southeast Portland home Tuesday.

Firefighters responded to the 4200 block of Southeast 9th Avenue at 1:40 p.m.

When firefighters arrived they found all sides of the home were covered in flames.

Firefighters were told someone was still inside, but to search the home crews first had to cool down the fire. Once they did, they got inside and found the body of a man who was in his 60s.

Neighbors had tried to help out and firefighters said they saw one man watering down the house with a hose.

That man suffered a minor burn injury in connection to the fire, but he was not taken to the hospital.

FOX 12 spoke with neighbors who watched it all happen.

"I saw smoke. I stopped, I looked if that man was there on the porch and he wasn't. So I ran up there and said 'there is a man in the house.' And there was another guy there at the time trying to pull him out," said Annette Johnson.

The house sustained heavy damage, but firefighters said it did not spread to any neighboring homes.

A Portland Fire & Rescue spokesman said the cause of the fire and the cause of the person's death are under investigation.
