After being asked to leave an apartment, a Portland man returned, forced his way inside, poured gasoline on another man and lit him on fire, court documents stated.

Joshua Bigsby, 28, is charged with seven counts of arson, as well as charges of second degree assault, burglary, criminal mischief and reckless endangering.

An attorney entered a not guilty plea on his behalf during a Tuesday afternoon arraignment.

A man named Mike suffered second and third degree burns in the Saturday morning fire. His partner, Krystal, suffered minor burns in the fire.

They have asked Fox 12 not to use their last names because they’re concerned about retaliation.

Mike and Krystal’s two young children and a babysitter were also in the apartment at the time, but were not hurt.

The apartment, near SE 157th and SE Division, was heavily damaged in the fire.

Court documents say the victims met Bigsby at the Fortune Star Lounge and invited him back to their apartment.

Bigsby and his acquaintances were asked to leave after an altercation broke out, but he returned with a gas can and lighter, according to a probable cause affidavit.

The affidavit states a witness told investigators she saw Mike “try to hold the door closed while defendant kicked in the door and poured gasoline on him. She said she saw the man light the victim on fire and then she retreated to the back of the apartment and jumped out a second story window.”

"I don’t know why he did it, I really don’t. I just know that he’s impacted more than just us. He’s impacted his family, he’s impacted the community. The neighbors are afraid to stay where they are. Everyone’s afraid," said Jessica, Krystal's sister-in-law.

Investigators used surveillance video from a neighbor, as well as surveillance video from Fortune Star Lounge and Spearmint Rhino to identify the suspect.

The victims lost most of their belongings in the fire.

Relatives have set up a GoFundMe account to benefit them.
