Thieves hit Portland electrician for second time in months

PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

A Portland electrician says he’s been hit by thieves for the second time in just over three months.

Kelly Dews tells Fox 12 his work van was just broken into on Labor Day outside his home on SE 11th and whoever did it stole a pouch of his personal tools along with a bin full of power tools provided by his company.

It’s eerily similar to what happened to him back in May.

It was another holiday – Memorial Day – when thieves first targeted his Squires Electric van, leaving the doors wide open and tools scattered on the ground.

“It’s pretty frustrating,” Dews said.  “Twice in four months now I’m going to have to replace tools, my company’s going to have to replace tools.  I’m not sure what to do to be honest.”

In both cases, Dews says the van was locked.

He just filed a police report and hopes whoever did it will be caught.

“The fact that this recent [theft] happened on Labor Day was even more of a slap in the face,” he added.  I’m a construction worker, I’m a member of Local 48, so Labor Day’s kind of our holiday.  To find that somebody used that day to steal things I need to make a living is kind of rough.”
