Marion County Judge to face complaints before oversight committee

Posted: Updated:
MARION COUNTY, OR (KPTV) -

A series of complaints have been filed against Marion County Circuit Court Judge Vance Day, and he is now going before an oversight committee.

The complaints include a refusal to perform marriages once same-sex couples were given the right.

The Judge was also accused of allowing a felon to handle a gun, as well as putting a picture of Adolf Hitler inside a Marion County Courthouse.

A spokesperson for the Judge says most of the allegations are two or three years old, and he has already been cleared of those.

To explain the picture, he said "When you're telling the story of WWII, you sometimes use Hitler's picture. It doesn't mean you're endorsing him. In this case, it very much meant the opposite.”

The commission is set to hear the complaint in November.

If Judge Day is found to have violated the code of conduct, the case will be sent to the Oregon Supreme Court for possible sanctions.
