SHERWOOD, OR (KPTV) -

Three juveniles and an adult have been charged in connection with a fire that destroyed a train trestle in Sherwood, Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue said Wednesday.

The Sherwood Police Department and Tualatin Valley Fire and Rescue have been jointly investigating the case since the fire started on Aug. 10.

The Fire burned approximately eight acres near Tualatin Sherwood Road and Langer Parkway and prompted evacuations of nearby businesses. A majority of the 600-foot-long structure collapsed due to the fire.

A fire investigator and a Sherwood detective conducted several witness interviews and examined material and photo evidence as part of the investigation.

As a result, Sherwood police charged three juvenile males and an adult male. The adult, Joshua Deibert, 27, was charged with Furnishing Alcohol to a Minor.

Police said the boys and Deibert were seen on the trestle about an hour before the fire started and were cited at the time for trespassing.

Officers didn't provide any specifics about how the fire started, but a fire investigator determined the fire was likely caused by "careless smoking."

Police said Wednesday that Deibert was not in police custody, as officers hadn't located him.

The juvenile suspects have not been identified.

The 85-year-old trestle was owned and operated by Portland and Western Railroad.
