Sandy High School lockdown lifted after reports of loud noise near school

Posted: Updated:
SANDY, OR (KPTV) -

Police have given the all-clear at Sandy High School, which was on lockdown for a little over an hour Wednesday morning.

According to district communications director Julia Monteith with the Oregon Trail School District, police were investigating a loud noise heard outside the school building.

Police thought the noise might have come from a construction site nearby, and the school was put on lockdown as a precaution while officers investigated.

Principal Kimberly Ball posted the following information to Facebook just before 11:00 a.m.

Parents,

I want to inform you of an incident that occurred today. Students reported to a staff member that they heard a loud noise near Sandy High School at approximately 9:35 a.m.. There is no issue occurring within the school, but staff and students have been asked to remain in the building until the issue is resolved. This mostly effects p.e. classes or science classes who may have planned on holding class outside. Sandy Police Department is working to determine the cause of the noise.

Sincerely,

Kimberly Ball
Principal
Sandy High School

The lockdown was lifted shortly after noon.
