Delivery truck damages natural gas line in Newberg

NEWBERG, OR (KPTV) -

Crews shut down streets in downtown Newberg on Wednesday due to a broken gas line caused by a delivery truck.

Police said around 11:30 a.m. a delivery truck hit a dumpster which damaged a natural gas line in an alleyway behind a local business on 701 E 1st Street. 

Emergency personnel crews evacuated nearby businesses. Newberg public works department, ODOT Carlton and Sherwood Police responded to help with traffic control. All foot and vehicle traffic was stopped until Northwest Natural Gas could shut off the gas line.

Northwest Natural were able to get it turned off and get things back to normal in about an hour.

Police said a few people did have to be treated for breathing difficulties, but there were no other injuries.
