Brush fire burns old lumber mill in Estacada

Crews with the Estacada Fire District responded to a 3 alarm fire at an old lumber mill off of Highway 24.

The Estacada firefighters were joined by crews from Sandy, Clackamas, Mt. Hood National Forest, Oregon Department of Forestry and American Medical Response.

One building was on fire, and the crews used defensive tactics to contain the blaze.

The department posted on Facebook around 4:20 p.m. that the fire was out.

The commercial structure fire at the old lumber mill has been knocked down (flames out). Crews are currently mopping up. This process could/will continue for several hours into the night. One lane closest to the mill site, of Highway 224 remains closed. Please use caution in the area. No injuries associated with this incident.

The grass bank leading to the highway has been burned, indicating that the fire possibly start there and worked up to the building.

Crews are asking the public to avoid the area for the time being to allow teams to put out the fire.
