Military care package scam targeting people in Hillsboro

Posted: Updated:
HILLSBORO, OR (KPTV) -

It's a nationwide scam where thieves take people's money telling them it will benefit Military care packages, now FOX 12's Most Wanted are accused of doing it in Hillsboro.

Police said a group has been active in the Tanasbourne area asking for donations for the supposed care packages.

People who live nearby said they can't believe the group would use soldiers as a way to scam people out of money.

"They work hard to protect our country so I mean it's not cool that people are going door to door giving false information and trying to scam people who are supposed to protect us," said Tumi Mfoloe, who lives in the Tanasbourne area.

No arrests have been made yet locally.

If you have any information about the scam, you're asked to call Hillsboro Police at 503-681-6175.
