Oregon sheriff indicted in excessive force investigation

KLAMATH FALLS, OR (AP) -

The sheriff of Klamath County has been indicted following allegations he used excessive force against inmates.

Sheriff Frank Skrah was arraigned Friday and did not enter a plea.

The Oregon Department of Justice says a grand jury indicted Skrah on charges including harassment, official misconduct, assault and strangulation.

As a condition of his release from jail, he's not allowed to patrol, participate in traffic stops or have contact with inmates or suspects.

Skrah said at a news conference Thursday that he hasn't caused harm to anyone while on duty. County commissioners have said Skrah should take paid leave, but he's refused.

Seven deputies were granted paid, non-disciplinary leave when they said Skrah retaliated against them after they were interviewed by Oregon Department of Justice investigators. The sheriff disputes those claims.
