ALBANY, OR (KPTV) -

Funnel clouds were spotted in the Albany and Hillsboro areas on Thursday.

The National Weather Service reported a funnel cloud sighting first occurred near Hillsboro at 1:30 p.m. by emergency management workers.

A second report near Albany took place at 2 p.m.

FOX 12 viewers sent in photos of the funnel cloud in the Albany area.

In both cases, the National Weather Service it appears the funnel clouds were brief and dissipated before touching the ground.

The National Weather Service reports the recent passage of a cold front can produce what is called cold air funnel clouds. Those funnel clouds do not usually touch the ground.

If one did, however, it would be a weak tornado that could possibly be dangerous and damaging, according to FOX 12 meteorologists.

The National Weather Service said the threat of funnel clouds would decrease dramatically after 5 p.m. Thursday.

FOX 12 meteorologists said a warm, dry and sunny weekend is in the forecast.
