VANCOUVER, WA (KPTV) -

A man suspected of driving while under the influence is in the Clark County Jail after trying to run from law enforcement, deputies said Friday morning.

Clark County Deputies attempted to stop a car around 2:25 a.m. after noticing it hit a cement center lane divider in the 9500 block of NE 117th Avenue.

Deputies said the driver of the car, which they determined was stolen, continued driving on a heavily-damaged front tire.

The driver then attempted to get onto I-5 southbound from 5th street in downtown Vancouver, but lost control on the onramp, went off the road and hit a light pole, deputies said.

The driver then attempted to get out of the car, but a deputy used a patrol car to block the door from opening.

The driver, Eric S. Potter, 21, and a female passenger were both detained at the scene.

Deputies released the woman after interviewing her.

Potter was arrested on several charge, including attempting to elude. Deputies said DUII charges were pending the results of a blood test.
