Kelso teachers' strike enters third day

Posted: Updated:

Students in Kelso are staying home from school again Friday as the district's teachers strike for the third straight day.

A rally was planned for 9 a.m. outside the district offices as the teachers' union and district head into a scheduled mediation session.

A hearing was also scheduled for Friday after the school district filed a lawsuit against the teachers' union, calling their strike illegal.

The district says the strike is causing "irreparable harm" by violating students' rights to an education.

Teachers are on strike because they're seeking higher pay for an increased workload.

Thursday, the Kelso School District sent a letter to parents saying the district sent an offer to the union that would make Kelso teachers the highest-paid in Cowlitz County.
