PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

A motorcyclist suffered traumatic injuries after crashing into an SUV in southwest Portland early Sunday morning, according to police.

Emergency crews responded to Southwest 34th and Multnomah Street at 12:46 a.m.

Investigators said a 37-year-old man on a 1999 Harley Davidson Road King motorcycle struck the driver's side of a 1994 Ford Explorer as the SUV was turning eastbound onto Multnomah after pulling out of 34th Avenue.

Police said the motorcycle rider may have been under the influence of alcohol. The 20-year-old driver of the SUV did now show any signs of intoxication, according to officers, and was cooperative with police.

The man on the motorcycle was transported to a Portland hospital with serious injuries. Police said he is expected to survive.

The driver of the SUV suffered minor injuries and was treated at the scene.

Based on the severity of the motorcycle rider's injuries, the Traffic Division's Major Crash Team responded to conduct a crash investigation.

No arrests have been made or citations issued in connection to the crash at this time.

The road was reopened to all traffic at 4:30 a.m.
