PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

The Portland Rescue Mission has completed nearly $300,000 in renovations funded by grants and donations.

The work included construction of a new shared living space for up to 50 people who are transitioning to employment, housing or recovery care.

The renovations will also offer expanded services to women, which is one of the fastest growing demographics in the homeless community with an increase of 15 percent more women on the streets than in the previous two years, according to the Portland Rescue Mission.

Ten additional shelter beds were also added for people waiting for housing or medical needs.

The Mission is Portland's largest overnight shelter provider, offering a place to go for more than 200 people on any given night. The shelter is located at 111 W. Burnside.

The $282,000 in remodeling work was funded by grants from the Home Builders Foundation, Boeing Employee Community Fund and M.J. Murdock Charitable Trust, in addition to individual donors.
