Two motorcyclists were involved in a crash on Highway 26 near Sandy that critically injured one of them and shut down traffic Wednesday morning.

Emergency crews responded to Milepost 32 east of Sandy at 8 a.m.

Investigators said Marc Gibson, 65, of Oregon City, was riding a 2014 Harley Davidson eastbound when he drifted left and struck the center cable barrier. Gibson was thrown off his motorcycle.

A man riding a 2010 Harley Davidson behind him, 68-year-old Vernon Henderson of Clackamas, was unable to avoid the crashed motorcycle and hit it, according to Oregon State Police.

Henderson was then thrown off his motorcycle into the roadway.

Gibson was taken by air ambulance to the hospital with injuries described as life-threatening. Henderson was driven by ambulance to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries, according to police.

The eastbound lanes of Highway 26 were closed for two hours while investigators were at the scene.
