DAMASCUS, OR (KPTV) -

On Monday, an Oregon man checked the balance of his disputed Verizon cell phone bill on an account he had closed nearly a year earlier.

The automated recording said, "Your total amount due is $2,156,593.64."

Now, several days later, the balance is zero.

Ken Slusher of Damascus told FOX 12 that he and his girlfriend opened a Verizon account with two phones in November 2014.

They canceled the service after one month due to major discrepancies on their bills. The first one was for nearly $700, when it was supposed to be $120, and showed a previous balance of $451.

The next statement requested a total payment of $9.

"The number of errors and the comedy of which they happened is astounding to me," Slusher said earlier this week.

He thought the situation had been taken care of after they canceled their service and returned the phones. However, notices from collection agencies starting showing up demanding $2,000 payments.

After going back and forth for months with customer service representatives at Verizon, Slusher was hit with the $2 million figure on his account balance.

Verizon issued a statement to FOX 12 on Wednesday saying it was a programming error that caused him to receive an incorrect voice message.

"We are correcting the error now and have resolved the issue to his satisfaction," the Verizon statement said.

On Thursday, Slusher said he received a letter sent by overnight delivery from Verizon that confirmed his account had officially been cleared. The letter said, "additionally, a request was submitted to the three major credit reporting agencies to have the negative debt and any derogatory notations removed" in reference to the account.
