GRESHAM, OR (KPTV) -

Gresham Police Dept. arrested a man after he attempted to trade-in a stolen Corvette to a Portland RV dealership.

Police said James Saban, 56, went to Portland RV on SE 82nd and wanted to trade in a 2003 Corvette for an RV of lesser value and get money back. Saban provided a signed title for the car along with his ID to the employee.

Police said the employee thought something was suspicious about Saban and the transaction. The employee told Saban he would work on paperwork and advised him to come back later.

According to police, the employee then tracked down the registered owner who had signed off on the title. The employee found out that Saban had purchased the car two days prior from a Gresham resident with a fraudulent $22,000 check.

The employee then called the police.

Saban returned to Portland RV to complete the sale. He was arrested on warrants out of Washington State along with numerous other charges including aggravated theft I, unlawful use of a vehicle, forgery I and ID theft.

Police said the Corvette was returned to its rightful owner.
