Hundreds of firefighters take part in Portland's Stairclimb Challenge

Posted: Updated:

Hundreds of firefighters from multiple states made the trip to Portland on Sunday to tackle a tall challenge in support of a great cause.

The firefighters raced up 40 floors of the U.S. Bancorp Tower in downtown Portland in full gear for the seventh-annual Firefighter Stairclimb Challenge.

The event was started by retired Portland firefighter Wes Loucks. His two grandsons were born with cystic fibrosis, a chronic genetic disease affecting a child's lungs and digestive system and shortening their lives.

The Stairclimb Challenge raises awareness and donations for the Oregon Chapter of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

The event raised $190,000 in 2014.
