HOOD RIVER, OR (KPTV) -

The power was shut off for people in the Hood River area Monday as crews battled a wildfire.

The 2.5-acre fire began burning at the eastern edge of the Indian Creek Trail in Hood River on Sunday evening.

The power lines running through the fire scene were shut off Monday to eliminate a potential hazard to the helicopter and ground crews working to contain the fire.

It was unknown how many people were affected by the power outage or how long it would last.

The fire is burning in steep brush below the trail, which remained closed Monday.

Hood River Fire & EMS reported Monday that a level one evacuation notice, meaning be ready to leave if the fire worsens, was in place for 3rd Street along the Indian Creek Canyon.

People in the area were advised to pay attention to falling embers and call 911 immediately if any new fires are spotted.

No mandatory evacuations are in place in connection to the fire.
