PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

The owner of a diesel Volkswagen found a note on their car this week that appears to be aimed at shaming the owner into buying a different car.

The restaurant Lardo posted a photo of the note on Instagram Monday.

It read:

Hello VW TDI Owner.

While cute, your TDI is outfitted with a cheating device meant to elude emissions standards.

Your car is currently polluting at rates higher than nearly any modern gasoline car today.
2-4x more than a Chevy Suburban.

Not to mention that VW lied to you and the public.

And was founded by Nazis. :(

Perhaps it's time to consider a different car?

-A sympathetic and concerned citizen of Portland.

The note references Volkwagen's recent controversy involving software that only activated cars' emissions control systems when they were undergoing testing.

An internal review found some Volkswagen managers may have known about the problem as early as 2007.

In total, as many as 11 million vehicles may have been manipulated.

Volkwagen publicly apologized for the issue and the company's CEO resigned last week.
