TUALATIN, OR (KPTV) -

A man is facing DUII charges for a May crash that paralyzed an 18-year-old who was walking in a crosswalk.

Joseph Burnham, 55, of Tualatin, was indicted by a grand jury and arraigned in court earlier this month.

Investigators said he struck Kyle Kuch the evening of May 20 on Southwest Boones Ferry Road near Siletz Drive.

Kuch was taken to the hospital in critical condition. He is now paralyzed from the waist down.

Police said Kuch was in a marked crosswalk when he was hit.

Burnham remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators, but police initially said alcohol was a possible factor in the crash.

Burnham is facing charges of DUII and third-degree assault while DUII. He pleaded not guilty and was released on bail. He is due back in court next month.
