PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

A fire spread quickly in a house full of boxes and clutter on Tuesday, making it difficult for firefighters to put out the flames.

Firefighters responded to the house fire located in the 500 block of SE 65th Ave. around 9:47 a.m.

When crews arrived they found flames coming from the back of the home.

The homeowner was outside of the home when crews arrived and was not injured.

Firefighters said they were hampered by storage and boxes stacked throughout the house.

The homeowner told FOX 12 that he accidentally started the fire in the kitchen by turning on the wrong burner when he went to make coffee. He also admitted the inside of his home was a disaster but said some family members have died recently and was storing many of their belongings.

No word on how much damage was done to the home.
