SALEM, OR (KPTV) -

A Salem woman is badly shaken after a man pointed a gun straight at her and stole an 8 1/2 week old English Bulldog puppy from inside her home.

In today's market, English Bulldog puppies are worth about $2,000 each, which is exactly what the Salem owners were asking when they arranged for some potential buyers to see them.

"I was relieved when I opened the door and saw a whole family, kids a pregnant lady. I mean, I was feeling pretty safe," said Lori Andrew.

Andrew said a family with four young children spent an hour at her home on Monroe Avenue on Tuesday night talking about puppies, playing with them. The father even took the time to talk about his love for the breed.

"He wanted a male, because he had a male that passed, and teared up. I mean, he teared up in there talking about it," said Andrew.

Eventually, the kids chose a female puppy named Marilyn and went to the car with their mother. The father stayed behind to finish the transaction, even stopping to read through the health guarantee.

"And I was just looking around while he was reading that, and he said 'I'm taking this puppy' and I looked at him. He had a gun, like four feet away, pointed at me," Andrew said.

Andrew said the man then walked out the door to rejoin his family, with the puppy in one hand and the pistol in the other.

"I've never had a gun pointed at me. That was scary," said Andrew.

Andrew's neighbor and business partner said she still can't believe it happened.

"You brought your children and put them at risk. It just doesn't make sense to me. I want him caught so the children are safe. Not so much the puppy. But it's the kids I worry about more than anything," said Elise Wagner.

The whereabouts of the puppy remain unknown.

Salem Police said detectives have been assigned to the case.

The gunman is described as an Hispanic man in his late 20s, with a slender build and a small tattoo below his left ear. The woman is also Hispanic, in her 20s and was described to be very pregnant. They were with four children, three girls and one boy.

Anyone with information about the missing dog or the family is asked to call Salem Police 503-588-6123.
