A Vancouver teacher who pleaded guilty to child rape involving a 15-year-old student was sentenced by a judge to five years in prison Wednesday.

Stephanie McCrea, 36, was arrested in January and pleaded guilty to four counts of third-degree child rape and tampering with a witness in July.

McCrea was the director of the drama department at Evergreen High School.

Court documents state the victim in this case told detectives that he had been having a sexual relationship with McCrea that started in December 2014.

The boy told investigators that they would meet in her office to kiss four to five times a week, according to a probable cause affidavit, and they had sexual intercourse twice, once at her house around Christmas and again in her office after school following winter break.

According to court documents obtained at the time of her arrest, McCrea has a 9-year-old son and was separated from her husband.

In court Wednesday, McCrea read a statement that said, "I take full responsibility for my actions every day. I feel the pain of knowing I hurt many people by my choices. I hurt because they hurt. I profoundly regret the hurt that I have caused and would do anything to take it back. The shame, the regret and the guilt that I feel is immense."

The victim's mother also spoke in court.

"I had conversations with her, which she lied to me about what they were going to be doing. And I of course automatically trusted because of her being a teacher, which is a life lesson for me as well," she said.

McCrea was put on administrative leave when the allegations first surfaced. Prosecutors said McCrea still continued talking to the victim, even creating a fake Facebook account to communicate with him.

Court documents also stated that she rehearsed what to say with the boy if they were ever interviewed by law enforcement.

A judge sentenced McCrea to five years in prison Wednesday, as per her plea deal, but she's due back in court Oct. 16 for her formal sentencing.
