NE Portland sports bar armed robbery caught on camera

Posted: Updated:

FOX 12's Most Wanted robbed a NE Portland bar owner at gunpoint and even fired a shot. The robber got away with thousands of dollars, but it was all caught on camera.

The armed robbery happened around 8:30 p.m. on Monday at the Be Van Sports Bar on Northeast Sandy Boulevard.

On surveillance video, you can see that one of the owners is standing behind the bar when a man with a motorcycle helmet on comes in, sticks a gun in her face and starts demanding money.

The suspect then climbs over the bar and gets frustrated and fires a gunshot into the cash register. He breaks it open and steals about $3,000.

Cameras outside the bar caught the suspect riding off on a motorcycle with another person.

FOX 12 talked to the husband of the woman working behind the bar that night and he said she's still very rattled by what happened. He hopes someone recognizes the guy and turns him in.

"I would like them to call police and see if we can catch the guy. I'm still upset. I'd like to meet the guy. See what he looks likes," said Jonathan Nguyen, owner of Be Van Sports Bar.

The owners said they think the robber came into the bar a few nights earlier and played video poker.

If you recognize the suspect, please call Portland Police 503-823-3333.
