Douglas County finding ways both big and small to help UCC shooting victims

Posted: Updated:

People all across Douglas County are busy finding ways to help families affected by the UCC shooting. Many who say they can’t just sit and do nothing and want to do something to help, no matter how big, or how small that may be.

Matt Boyd is one of those people, using his own business to do that.

“We do a whole lot in this little store,” said Going Postal owner Matt Boyd.

Boyd is now hard at work making specialized UCC Strong Decals, that are now selling out faster than he can make them.

“Someone called me and asked if I’d do a decal for them, and I said, ‘sure,’” said Boyd. “I designed it, and someone else saw it, and within five minutes I sold five. Now about a day later, we’re probably at over $1000 in sales at this point.”

Boyd says half of the proceeds will help the family of shooting victim Rebecka Ann Carnes, a girl, he grew to know in his shop.

“Rebecka would take her time and wait for me to get done with what I’m doing just to say hi for a few minutes, she honestly did touch my heart,” said Boyd.

He’s also close with her father.

“Her Dad and I talked yesterday and he said, ‘I have no doubt in my mind that my daughter stood up and said I am a Christian,’” said Boyd. “And you know, it put me in tears. That’s the way I’ll always remember her.”

The rest of whatever he makes, Boyd says, he plans to give to the general UCC fund.
