How Oregon marijuana tax revenue compares to cigarettes, alcohol

When the state begins collecting taxes on recreational marijuana sales next year, the biggest percentage of that money will go to schools statewide.

As these graphics show, the majority of alcohol taxes go to the state's general fund, while most of the cigarette tax revenue goes to the Oregon Health Plan and tobacco use reduction.

Sales of recreational marijuana began Oct. 1, but the state won't begin collecting taxes until Jan. 1, 2016.
