ROSEBURG, OR (KPTV) -

Chris Mintz, an Umpqua Community College student credited with trying to prevent a gunman from entering a classroom last Thursday, has been released from the hospital.

Mercy Medical Center in Roseburg said Wednesday that Cheyeanne Fitzgerald is the only patient who remains in their care. The hospital said she is fair condition.

Mintz was in Snyder Hall Oct. 1 when the gunman entered a classroom and opened fire, killing nine students and wounding nine others.

Police said the gunman then shot and killed himself.

Family members said Mintz tried to block the door to keep the gunman out.

In the process, Mintz was shot several times in the back, stomach, hands and legs.

A GoFundMe account set up in Mintz's name had raised nearly $800,000 by Thursday morning.
