ROSEBURG, OR (KPTV) -

Friends and family gathered to celebrate the life of Jason Johnson on what would have been his 34th birthday.

Johnson is one of nine students shot and killed at Umqua Community college last Thursday.

Douglas County Sheriff John Hanlin, Roseburg Police Chief Jim Burge, Douglas County District Attorney Rick Wesenberg, UCC interim president Rita Cavin and other first responders joined Johnson's family and friends at the memorial service at the Church on the Rise in Roseburg.

Johnson, who completed the Salvation Army's drug rehab earlier this year, was proud of his Christian faith and proud to have earned his high school diploma, his mother told FOX 12.

He was also excited to attend classes at UCC, she said.
