GLENEDEN BEACH, OR (KPTV) -

A fire destroyed a home that was built more than 100 years ago on the Oregon coast.

Depoe Bay firefighters responded to the fire on Millport Slough off Immonen Road in Gleneden Beach at 9:30 a.m. Thursday.

Heavy fire and smoke was pouring from both levels of the home when firefighters arrived.

It was quickly determined nobody was home. Firefighters transitioned into a defensive mode to protect nearby structures, as the home was deemed a total loss.

The closest fire hydrant was more than a mile away through narrow dirt roads. Multiple water tenders made multiple trips to fight the fire.

The structure was originally built more than 100 years ago, according to the Depoe Bay Fire Department, but had gone through several updates over the years. The 5,000-square-foot house was destroyed and the loss was estimated to be more than $500,000.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Depoe Bay firefighters were assisted by North Lincoln Fire and Rescue #1, Newport Fire Department, Oregon Department of Forestry and Pacific West Ambulance. No injuries were reported at the scene.
