A West Salem High School quarterback has been suspended after his teammate claims he sexually harassed him while taking a snap on the field.

Freshman Garrett Moore is in his disbelief.

He says it happened after a routine football practice last Friday, doing what he thought was a routine play.

The other boy is a center Moore had never taken a snap from before.

“I asked where he liked it and I moved my hands and I bumped him”, he said. “I’m trying to get my hands in there and I can’t really see what I’m doing. So he starts laughing and everyone starts laughing.”

After the play, Moore spit on the ground, but the center thought he spit on his shoe. So then Moore says the guy kneed him in the groin.

By Tuesday, Moore says he was being escorted into the vice principal’s office by a security guard.

“The vice principal called me down and says, the kid is saying you tickled him. I said, I didn’t tickle him. I mean, he laughed, so I guess so. All I did was touch him. I mean, I’m just playing football.”

A letter signed by Vice Principal Jim Miller sites sexual harassment as the reason for Moore’s suspension.

His mother Tamara thinks it’s being blown way out of proportion and she wonders why the coaches aren’t defending her son.

“The coach saw the whole thing. He never mentioned it to Garrett at all”, said Mrs. Moore.

Moore has already missed one game and he can’t return to school until Monday.

Moore says he wants to clear his name because he feels he did nothing wrong.

FOX 12 asked Salem school officials for a comment about this, but they say they can’t talk about disciplinary issues involving students.
