A service dog inside of Snyder Hall, that was alongside his owner who was shot and killed in the UCC shooting, is finally home, according to family.

Loved ones of Sarena Moore say it’s like having a piece of her, back with them.

Moore was planning to get her degree in business at UCC to fulfill a dream, according to family.  She was confined to a wheel chair, so she brought her service dog to the classroom every day.

A dog, her loved ones say, was with her until the end.

No one knows exactly what the six-year-old service dog heard or saw that day, but Moore’s fiancé, Travis Dow, says he can’t help but wonder.

“I could imagine what it’s like for him. He didn’t just lose an owner, he lost a friend. It’s been real hard on him,” said Dow.

Dow says the husky-malamute mix wasn’t physically hurt, but seems to be deeply affected by the shooting.

“Nothing you can say can make him feel better, he knows the loss. He knows she’s never coming home,” said Dow. “He goes to her room and lays next to the door at night and doesn’t move. “

Dow says he too is feeling the loss of his love.

“My fiancé was everything to me, she was the world,” said Dow.

Dow said the two were planning to get married in January.

“The last words out of her mouth were, ‘I love you baby,’” said Dow. “It hurts deeply, and those words will haunt me in a good way for the rest of my life.”

Dow says he and the dog are now trying to work through their grief the best way they know how, together.

“Me and him, we’re going to do what we can, we’re going to keep going forward.  That’s what Sarena would want us to do.  Keep pushing forward and don’t stop,” said Dow.
