EUGENE, OR (KPTV) -

The first person to greet President Obama when Air Force One arrived on Friday was the Mayor of Eugene.

Mayor Kitty Piercy greeted the President on the airport tarmac before he left for Roseburg.

While their meeting only lasted about a minute, Mayor Piercy said she was able to talk to him about an organization she's part of "Mayors Against Illegal Guns."

"We didn't talk long about it. I just was letting him know that I have a long history of being a part of that particular organization that tries to keep guns out of the hands of folks who shouldn't have them. Mayors Against Illegal Guns. I just let him know because I know he's working with that organization."

Mayor Piercy also said the President told he was concerned about the families of the victims and how they are coping.
