OLCC looking for public comments on proposed marijuana rules

Posted: Updated:

More than 100 people came to a public hearing Friday to voice their opinions on regulations governing recreational marijuana.

The Oregon Liquor Control Commission just released a 70 page draft of temporary rules, covering everything from the application process for retail licenses to store signage and security.

Over 130 people attended the hearing at OLCC headquarters in Milwaukie, with dozens of them made public comments.

The concerns they raised at the meeting kept coming back to the same issue.

"A number of folks spoke to ensuring that children are protected, whether it was directly through access to recreational marijuana products, or indirectly through advertising or attractive packaging and that sort of thing," Mark Pettinger, a spokesperson from the OLCC, explained.

The OLCC will continue to take public comments at this stage until October 21, the day before the commission votes on the temporary rules.

Anyone wanting to weigh in on the proposed rules can send an email to the OLCC at marijuana@oregon.gov.
